Naturally Support Your Child's Immunity
Jeanne Ohm, DC

Today, parents have many concerns to face about their children's health and well-being. In spite of the continuous rise in health care costs, children’s immune related diseases are increasing  at alarming rates. Asthma, allergies, diabetes,  ear infections, are just some of the disorders we are seeing reach epidemic proportions. Children and parents are missing more and more school and work days as a result.

Drugs are not the answer...
Routine treatment for these conditions, drugs, may sometimes change the symptoms, but are unable to offer a real state of health.

Newer drugs are marketed all the time with the hope of cures, but each drug has its limitations in its treatment. Furthermore, these drugs all have lasting side effects which can cause even more damage to these children’s long term health and well-being.

Current research today is emphasizing the importance of supporting children’s immune systems, naturally. Responsible MDs are staying current with this research, and are taking a “watch and wait” approach, with antibiotics, for example. Many doctors are realizing that the only way to real health is to work with the body’s own magnificent healing capabilities.

The vital nerve system...
Science has long recognized the importance of the nervous system in health. The World Book Encyclopedia of Science has this to  say, “All body systems would be immobilized without the nervous system. It controls and regulates every body activity down to the workings of the tiniest cell.”

The nervous system orchestrates the health and function of all  body systems.  Recent scientific findings claim that the nerve system and the immune system are very closely connected. Both of these systems  are directly dependant upon each other to function correctly. Therefore,  your child’s healthy immune system is dependant upon a healthy nervous system!

Spinal Research in Children...
Several years ago a German medical study was published showing the implications of spinal misalignment and the  effectiveness of the specific,  spinal adjustment on children’s health.  More than 1,000 children participated in the study. Many of these children had been experiencing lowered resistance states with chronic infections like ear, nose and throat infections. Dr. Gutman stated he was, “constantly amazed how even with the lightest adjustment with the index finger, the clinical picture normalizes, sometimes gradually, but often immediately.” What a wonderful study to demonstrate the relationship between a healthy nerve  and immune system in children.

Damaged nerve systems...
Children’s spines can become misaligned in many ways. The birth process is one such cause. Dr. Abraham Towbin, Harvard medical researcher in the department of neuropathology tells us ”the birth process even under optimal, controlled conditions is potentially a traumatic event for the fetus.” The usual force experienced as the baby descends down the birth canal and then the force applied during delivery are common causes of infant spinal injury.

As the child grows other traumas frequently occur without parents realizing their effects on the spinal nerves. Learning to walk, ride a bike and  skate each have their share of falls resulting in spinal injury. Ongoing sport traumas, poor posture, and other typical childhood activities all affect the developing spine and the delicate nervous system it houses. Damage to the spinal nerves  will affect overall health and well-being in one way or another!.

An established science...
Doctors of Chiropractic have long recognized the importance of a healthy nervous system resulting in greater health. For over 100 years, clinical results have shown the safety and efficacy of the chiropractic adjustment.

The specialized schooling for Doctors of Chiropractic trains them to locate mis-alignments in the spine which are negatively affecting  nerve system function. Only the  Chiropractor is qualified to remove interferences to the nervous system with gentle, specific, spinal adjustments.
